Why you should read to your children

The importance of reading to children at a young age cannot be overstated. Studies have shown that young children are acquiring the ability to pronounce all the sounds in the language from infancy, and after they reach a certain age, it is very difficult for children to pronounce new sounds. For example, Japanese immigrants have trouble distinguishing between English “r” and “l” sounds even after spending years in the US, because they were not exposed to these sounds at a young age.  For more information see my article (Early Reading Important).
